Risers to watch as the season unfolds.
Standouts Making Early Noise in Indiana Girls Basketball
Across the state, several young players are emerging as key pieces for their programs, with Mt. Vernon’s sophomore point guard Zoey Wood, Carroll’s senior forward/center Lily George, Columbus North’s junior guard Kaylie Harmon, Batesville’s junior guard Kaylin Kathmann, and Valparaiso’s junior post Olliana Hardin all making notable early season impacts.
Zoey Wood (Mt. Vernon • Sophomore • 5’5” • Point Guard)
Wood has given Mt. Vernon a steady floor leader through the opening stretch of the season. After a 21 point outing in the win over Rushville on November 21, she is now averaging more than 16 points per game. Even in a tough loss to Westfield on November 18, she found ways to contribute with 9 points and strong decision making. Wood’s mix of scoring, tempo control, and defensive activity has made her a reliable tone setter for the Marauders and one of the more promising young guards in the area.
Lily George (Carroll • Senior • 6’2” • Forward/Center • Huntington University Commit)
George has returned to anchor the Chargers’ frontcourt with physicality and production. In a recent matchup with Fort Wayne Northrop, she posted a dominant double double of 27 points and 15 rebounds, reinforcing her ability to carry Carroll on both ends. Earlier in the season, she added a 16 point, 11 rebound performance in a win over DeKalb, showing consistent interior control. Her size, scoring touch, and rebounding strength make her the clear anchor for Carroll as she continues to build rhythm in her senior year.
Kaylie Harmon (Columbus North • Junior • 5’7” • Guard)
Harmon has developed into the steady leader for Columbus North, giving the Bull Dogs a reliable mix of scoring, creation, and control each night. She is averaging just over 11 points per game while adding more than 3 assists and a steal, consistently finding ways to impact possessions. Her 14 point performance against Shelbyville highlighted her efficiency on both ends, and her earlier 22 point outing at Terre Haute North showed she can take on a heavier scoring load when needed. Harmon’s consistent production and playmaking feel make her the team’s most dependable contributor and one of the more underappreciated junior guards in the region.
Kaylin Kathmann (Batesville • Junior • 5’8” • Guard)
Kathmann has been a steady bright spot for Batesville, showing developing versatility as both a scorer and a creator. She has produced multiple double digit outings this season, including a 17 point performance against South Ripley that highlighted her ability to get downhill and finish. Her handle and vision allow her to generate clean looks for teammates, and she continues working to sharpen her perimeter shooting and overall efficiency. As she develops, Kathmann has the tools to grow into one of the more well rounded guards in the 2027 class.
Olliana Hardin (Valparaiso • Junior • 6’1” • Center/Power Forward)
Hardin is beginning to take a clear step forward for Valparaiso as the season gains momentum, providing reliable frontcourt production and signs of an expanding skill set. She has posted multiple double digit scoring efforts, including 14 points against Warsaw and another strong showing with 12 points and 8 rebounds versus Eastern Hancock. Her ability to play through contact, finish with touch, and step out for open jumpers gives Valpo a versatile interior option. As she continues to refine her consistency and assertiveness, Hardin is emerging as one of the more promising young posts in the 2027 class.
