Spotlighting the Indiana players leading the steals leaderboard and impacting every category this season.
Indiana’s top thieves are doing far more than taking the ball away. The players leading the state in steals are also scoring, rebounding, facilitating, and shaping games in every category. These five standouts are stealing possessions and emerging as true all-around threats this season.
Jaliyah Farmer (Evansville Harrison, Indiana • Freshman • 5’7” • Guard)
Jaliyah Farmer has wasted no time making her presence felt at the varsity level. She is currently averaging 18.2 points, 7.3 assists, 6.0 rebounds, and more than 8 steals per game, a stat line that speaks to her all-around impact. Farmer delivered a double-double in a win over Tecumseh and earlier posted a triple-double that helped snap a long home-court losing streak. Her activity fuels Harrison’s tempo, and she has quickly become one of the most disruptive young guards in the state.
Chyanne Brown (Valparaiso, Indiana • Junior • 5’10” • PF/SF)
Chyanne Brown brings size, physicality, and flashes of two-way impact to Valparaiso’s frontcourt. She is currently averaging 5.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, and more than a steal per game, highlighted by a 16 point, 7 rebound performance against Penn. Brown runs the floor well, handles the ball in transition, and is at her best in the mid-post where her strength allows her to finish inside and control the boards. Her ability to contribute on both ends continues to make her an important piece for the Vikings.
MaKenna Taylor (Jeffersonville, Indiana • Sophomore • 5’7” • PG/SG)
MaKenna Taylor is emerging as a smooth, efficient guard who helps set the tone for Jeffersonville. She is currently averaging 12.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game while showing she can score, defend, and push the pace. Taylor runs the floor with purpose, handles pressure well, and finishes effectively in transition. Her combination of scoring ability, tempo control, and defensive activity makes her a steady spark for the Red Devils.
Avery Elijah (Kouts, Indiana • Freshman • 5’10” • PG/SF)
Avery Elijah is off to a strong start in her first varsity season, providing Kouts with a long, skilled guard who plays with confidence and control. She is currently averaging 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 steals per game, consistently impacting multiple areas of the game. Elijah handles the ball with composure, attacks the rim when needed, and creates scoring chances for herself and teammates. Her size and early-season production mark her as one of the most promising young players in Indiana.
Lilly Drew (Knightstown, Indiana • Junior • 6’2” • SF/PF)
Lilly Drew has become a major presence for Knightstown, using her size and mobility to influence the game on both ends. She is currently averaging 16.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game, giving the Panthers consistent scoring, rebounding, and defensive presence. Drew has posted standout performances throughout the season, including a 23 point outing with multiple steals and blocks and an 11 point, 11 rebound double-double. Her impact around the rim and ability to contribute across categories make her one of the most dynamic forwards in the state.
These five are showing that steals are more than a defensive stat. They are a catalyst for scoring, confidence, and control of the game. With their ability to take the ball away and do damage in every other category, they are redefining what it means to steal the spotlight in Indiana girls basketball.
